C3 User Guide

ADAM 4000 series IO modules

Description

Observant supports a range of ADAM 4000 IO expansion modules for cases where

more digital inputs/outputs and analog inputs are needed than are available on the

C3 itself. Currently supported modules are limited to:

• 4017+: 8 channel analog input

• 4055: 8 open collector digital outputs + 8 wet/dry digital inputs

• 4051: 16 wet/dry digital inputs

• 4056S: 12 sink type digital outputs

• 4056SO: 12 source type digital outputs

• 4068: 8 low current relay outputs

• 4069: 8 high current relay outputs

Electrical connection

• Observant supports Modbus RS485 versions of ADAM modules only

• The modules can be powered from the C3 in the case where they are not

powered full-time by a separate power supply, or where mains power is

available to the C3

• The Observant standard 4-way device cable set may be used if desired as

 QFSæHVSF

• Either RS485 port on the C3 may be used

• For sensor/device connection please refer to the ADAM 4000 series

documentation

• Ensure the communication protocol is set to Modbus 9600-8-N-1

Installation notes

• ADAM module are usually mounted along side the C3 on a 35 mm DIN rail

• Module can be installed remotely from the C3 (according to the limits of

the RS485 connection)
